Lucia Pulido a NY

New York, December 21th, 2011- Lucia Pulido, a singer who listeners feel close to her from the instant she starts singing, will celebrate her 30th anniversary as an artist performing at Lincoln Center's David Rubenstein Atrium, on Thursday January 19th, 8:30 pm. She will perform songs from her old and new repertoire accompanied by some of the greatest musicians she has played with in New York since moving here in 1994. Admission to this event is free.

Ms. Pulido has mined the musical traditions of her native Colombia and other Latin American countries in an ongoing search for a distinct, experimental style. She has participated in projects where traditional Colombian music blends with the rhythms of jazz and world music and in which the cumbia and bullerengue from the Atlantic Coast, the currulaos from the Pacific Coast and the joropos from the Colombian Eastern Plains are the point of departure for her musical creativity.

The New York-based artist has performed professionally since her teen years in her country. Her versatile singing style is also characterized by meticulous attention to the arrangements and compositions she performs and, her vocal sophistication is enhanced in genres such as herding songs (cantos de vaquería), funeral laments (alabaos) and harvest chants (cantos de zafra), giving Lucia the liberty to explore her voice fully.

Ms. Pulido is backed seamlessly by a skilled New York based cast: bassist, Stomu Takeishi; guitarist and composer, Sebastian Cruz; drummer, Ted Poor; and clarinetist, Adam Kolker. Among the special guest for this celebration are: Erik Friedlander, Dave Binney, La Cumbiamba eNeYe. Video by Sean Ferry.

Lincoln Center is on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, between West 62nd and 65th Streets and Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues.
WHEN: Thursday January 19th, 2012 – 8:30 p.m.
